Regiment broken up and had its elements reorganized and redesignated as follows:
- Regiment (less 2d Battalion) as the 103d Engineer Battalion, an element of the 28th Infantry Division
- 2d Battalion as the 180th Engineer Battalion and relieved from assignment to the 28th Infantry Division (hereafter separate lineage)
